Letter from Homeschool Cottage

Dear Fellow Homeschooler,

We would like to take the opportunity to tell you about the Home School Cottage Broussard. Based in Broussard, LA (conveniently located near HWY 90, just south of Lafayette). This innovative business is meeting the needs of homeschoolers all across South Central and Western Louisiana. It is owned and operated by homeschooling mothers who understand what you’re looking for and what obstacles you face. We provide a kid-friendly place for parents to come and shop and ask questions.

We are interested in all aspects of homeschooling and parenting: emotional, social and educational. We are experienced in many different styles of curricula and are well-equipped to help you find what is right for your individual family needs. Our store stocks new curricula, such as:

Easy Grammar
Explode the Code
Saxon Math
Singapore Math
Wordly Wise
Apologia Science
Story of the World
AVKO Sequential Spelling

Due to our busy consignment service, we offer a wide range of used curriculum at discounted prices, including Bob Jones, ABeka, Rod and Staff, and Seton. Our specialty is finding an educational fit for every family and every budget. A variety of Melissa & Doug educational toys are available, as well.

You can find helpful information on our website www.schoolcottage.com. We are also on Facebook where you can be informed weekly of interesting workshops, classes and new additions to our inventory. We would love for you to become part of our fan family on Facebook. You may also request to be added to our email list.

We have a lending library with wonderful resources for homeschooling and parenting, great reads for support and encouragement. Many of these books have been donated by fellow homeschoolers, and we appreciate their generosity.

Quarterly, we offer Free Homeschooling 101 workshops. These workshops are designed to help new homeschoolers or those interested in homeschooling to become better informed. Our dates for 2010 are Saturdays, April 10th, August 7th and November 6th. These workshops are from 10am-noon. We also offer one-on-one consultations and curriculum counseling for families who want an individualized focus.

This spring we will be speaking at several area homeschool conventions and meetings. We will be sharing information and helping with curriculum choices, all the while giving parents and opportunity to look through the curricula themselves. We would love the opportunity to come to your kick-off meetings in the fall and meet your members personally. Big or small, casual or formal we can fit in with your needs. If this would be a possible please contact us so we can work out the details.

We are in the process of making changes to our website to better serve the homeschooling community. If you would like your group to be listed on our website, please let us know the website or contact information you would like to have listed. This is a great resource for families interested in homeschooling or who are new to the area.

Please pass along this information to your members and let them know that we are here to help them. We are happy to check our shelves over the phone or via email. Let us know what you are looking for and we’ll put it to the side for you or ship it to your home.

Here to serve you,

Carla Carr and Kelda Poynot
