The Acadiana Homeschool Key Club will hold its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 29 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.  in the meeting room of the South Regional branch of the Lafayette Public Library (6101 Johnston Street).    Membership is open to all Acadiana homeschool students in grades 8-12.  Parents and prospective members are invited to attend this informational/planning meeting.
Key Club International is the world’s largest high school service organization with a membership of nearly 240,000 members in 24 nations.    What makes Key Club so successful is the fact that it is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others.   This is the first homeschool Key Club in Louisiana and is chartered by the Saint Martinville Kiwanis Club.   Activities this year will include individual/group volunteer opportunities with Bridge Ministry of Acadiana, Habitat for Humanity, FoodNet, Saint Joseph’s Diner and the St. Martinville Kiwanis “Every Child a Swimmer” program.

Students ages 13-18 can join our Young Astronomers Club, an after-school activity meeting on the 2nd Thursday of each month from September-May, from 4-5 PM. Don’t forget that we offer unique parties for birthdays, Girl’s Night Out, bridal showers and Office Get Togethers!  Parties run 2 – 2 1/2 hours, include all supplies and cost just $150 for up to ten people.  Additional guests are welcome at a charge of $10 per person.
Since all pottery is hand made from start to finish, it takes about two weeks to get your pieces back.
Come and visit the studio!  Feel free to shop for cool gifts, watch a class or visit the gallery during Artwalk!  Our studio hours are Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 10 -4, Saturday mornings from 9 – noon and Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 -9.  We are sometimes available by appointment as well.

India Day – If you have ever caught yourself daydreaming of the marble archways of the Taj Mahal, or wondered what it might be like to trade your SUV for an elephant ride, this event is not to be missed. With the help of the South Regional Library staff, Indians residing in Acadiana have come together to share some of their creative passions and modes of artistic expression in a two-hour “India Day” celebration, which includes music, dance, and handson Indian activities.
Sangeet Sandhya group will perform a mix of classical, folk, and “Bollywood” numbers. Local senior students of the Kalpanalaya Academy of Dance will dance the beautiful “Thillana”, which involves rapid rhythmic footwork punctuated with sculpturesque poses. The educational component includes a visual presentation complemented with hands-on activities such as, Indian-style face painting; your name written in different Indian languages; delectable spices that make Indian food so tasty; and exposure to interesting characters featured in Indian mythology. Admission is free. All ages welcomed.

Food for Life – NUTRITION AND COOKING CLASS – Designed by physicians, nutrition experts, and registered dietitians, the class includes information about how certain foods and nutrients work to promote or discourage cancer growth, along with cooking demonstrations of simple and healthy recipes that can be recreated easily at home. Ann Sonnier, Cooking Instructor with The Cancer Project in Washington, D. C. and dietetics student at UL Lafayette, will demonstrate how to prepare meals loaded with antioxidants, high fiber, low fat, and utilizing healthy dairy alternatives. Preregistration is required.
